Miniature Electronics for Therapeutic Robotics
November, 2013Magnetically Actuated Soft Capsule Endoscope (MASCE) is the medical robotics research conducted at Carnegie Mellon's NanoRobotics Laboratory. The capsule uses bio-inspired adhesives and magnetic control for minimally invasive interventions.
The capsule is equipped with a miniature camera for real-time imaging. The challenge is to fit coin batteries and a circuit board with video RF transmitter and power circuit into the capsule. 1-cm diameter RF electronics was successfully designed and implemented. The future work includes reducing the amount of on-board batteries by inductively charging from the outside.
